Bearing His Image
When God created Adam and Eve, the first thing He did was bless them, and said, be fruitful and multiply, replenish the earth, subdue and have dominion. (Genesis 1:28) What God spoke to them, gives us an understanding and indication concerning His purpose for you and I. God has and will never change His mind concerning you.
We are to live a fruitful life. The character and very nature of fruit, is that it can never remain the same; it is designed to change. The fruitfulness of today is not designed to guide your future. Fruit is constantly changing its state, from its beginnings as seed for sowing, to food for eating. We must be able to speak about the fruitfulness in our lives from not only 20 years ago, but yesterday.
We are to multiply. Yes, this can speak of children, although it also speaks of multiplying what is fruitful in your life. If we are not multiplying fruitfulness, we are multiplying decay.
We are to replenish the earth. Replenishing speaks of resourcefulness. You can't replenish what you don't have. Your duty as a replenisher, is to give life. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 says, Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. (NKJV). We are a life-giver like Jesus because we have also been given the ministry of reconciliation. Jesus started something, and being that He is the first-born of many, we are to carry that on as the second-born.
We are to subdue and have dominion. We are to be in control of everything God has created, except people. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet. (Psalm 8:6 - NKJV)
It's important that we evaluate our lives and measure our living experience. In God, do you find that you are being fruitful? Are you then multiplying what is fruitful? Are you replenishing the earth and being resourceful? Are you subduing and having dominion over all of creation?
Our true purpose, as a child of God, is to bear His image. Your identity comes from the Word of God. What God has called you to, must come by His grace only, and not our strength. Surrender your life to Him, and allow who He is, to work in you to will and do His good pleasure.
